  17. <p>    When Iraq used poison gas to kill Kurdish civilians last
  18. year, the U.S. joined other nations in condemning chemical
  19. warfare. But last week it became clear that at least one
  20. American company has helped spread the deadly weapons. After
  21. Customs Service agents accused Baltimore-based Alcolac
  22. International, Inc., of illegally shipping hundreds of tons of
  23. thiodiglycol, a solvent that can be used in making mustard gas,
  24. the firm agreed to plead guilty to violating export laws.
  25. Prosecutors believe the chemical shipments eventually arrived in
  26. Iraq and Iran.
